Ministers from Algeria, Egypt, and Tunisia gathered in Algiers on 25 October 2026 for a meeting of the tripartite neighboring countries mechanism. Participants discussed the ongoing crisis in Libya during the session. Ahmed Attaf of Algeria, Badr Abdelatty of Egypt, and Mohamed Ali Nafti of Tunisia attended the event to coordinate regional perspectives on the situation. The meeting focused on the regional impact of the political instability affecting Libya. Each official represented their respective government during the discussions held in the Algerian capital. The session concluded with the participants evaluating the security implications for the bordering states.

Commitment to Political Solutions

Ahmed Attaf, Badr Abdelatty, and Mohamed Ali Nafti reaffirmed the central role of the neighboring countries' mechanism under UN auspices to facilitate a political solution in Libya. The ministers stated that this framework remains the primary path to resolving the ongoing national crisis.

These officials also expressed full support for UN efforts to organize simultaneous, free, and fair presidential and parliamentary elections. The ministers noted that such processes are necessary to restore stability and state institutions across Libya. Participants confirmed that coordinating with international representatives will continue to ensure these electoral objectives are met according to established timelines. The ministers concluded that a Libyan-led process is essential to achieving lasting peace.

Rejecting External Interference

Ahmed Attaf, Badr Abdelatty, and Mohamed Ali Nafti formally rejected all forms of external interference in Libyan affairs during their meeting in Algiers on 25 October 2026. The three ministers stated that such interventions obstruct the path toward national stability and regional security. They collectively demanded the complete withdrawal of mercenaries and foreign fighters currently present within Libyan borders. The officials emphasized that removing these actors remains a necessary condition for restoring state sovereignty and maintaining internal order. According to the ministers, the absence of outside influence is essential for the success of a Libyan-led political process. These representatives from Algeria, Egypt, and Tunisia identified the removal of all foreign military elements as a priority for the neighboring countries' mechanism.

Reviewing Recent Diplomatic Progress

Ahmed Attaf, Badr Abdelatty, and Mohamed Ali Nafti reviewed the results of the mini-dialogue committee, which consists of 44 members, and examined the framework agreement signed on 30 August 2026. The ministers evaluated how these outcomes contribute to the ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at stabilizing Libya.

The tripartite mechanism previously convened in Cairo on 21 May 2026 to discuss regional stability and the situation in Libya. That session allowed the representatives from Algeria, Egypt, and Tunisia to synchronize their diplomatic approaches before the subsequent gathering in Algiers.

Officials determined that the next meeting of the tripartite mechanism will take place in Tunisia. This upcoming session will provide a platform for the ministers to continue monitoring progress on the framework agreement and the work of the mini-dialogue committee.
