A massive fire broke out at an oil refining and storage station in the town of Chushka, according to reports. Satellite images subsequently showed continuous thick smoke emanating from the fuel tank area near Chushka, which is situated close to the Kerch Strait crossing. This visual evidence from satellite imagery and digital maps aligns with announcements from local Russian authorities and civil defense regarding a significant fire at a main oil station in the area.
Russian authorities deployed large firefighting teams, rescue forces, and civil defense personnel to the site to manage the raging fires. The Logistics Operations Headquarters in Krasnodar region reported that the Ukrainian drone attack directly targeted the Panagia ferry at the Kerch Strait crossing, contributing to the broader incident.
Logistical Paralysis and Crisis
Moscow suspended maritime ferry traffic across the Kerch Strait crossing indefinitely following the attacks. In response, Krasnodar authorities advised large truck drivers and heavy transport vehicles to reroute through an alternative land route. This route traverses Rostov-on-Don, Taganrog, Mariupol, and Melitopol before reaching Simferopol. Crimea's head, Sergei Aksyonov, announced immediate emergency protective measures, including the halt of fuel sales at petrol stations to individuals and private companies. Fuel supplies were subsequently restricted to government entities, essential services, and security and military systems only, according to Aksyonov's directives.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that Ukrainian Armed Forces successfully conducted long-range military strikes. "The Ukrainian Armed Forces successfully carried out long-range military strikes targeting Russian logistics, military, and oil facilities on both sides of the strategic Crimean Bridge," Zelenskyy stated. Recent satellite images align with local media and social media reports, showing continuous thick black smoke from strategic locations in Kerch and around the maritime crossing after the attacks. Zelenskyy specified that the air strikes accurately hit oil and gas maritime transport facilities in the Krasnodar region, a main fuel depot in Kerch, and four radar stations of the S-400 air defense systems and two Pantsir systems. He described these actions as a legitimate response, stating, "These concentrated missile and air strikes came as a legitimate and optimal response to the ongoing Russian attacks against civilians and Ukrainian towns." Zelenskyy also praised his country's forces for their advanced capabilities, noting, "We praise the advanced technical and operational capabilities of our forces in carrying out complex military operations at a distance of about three hundred kilometers full behind the blazing front lines."
