The UAE began playing a functional role in the Gulf and Middle East over twenty years ago, initiating geopolitical research centers with a US commitment. These centers focused on Islamic movements in the Muslim world and their role in creating change. The initial goal was to assess the possibility of relying on these movements to lead the Arab world into an "Arab Spring" and "barbaric" one. Following "Al-Aqsa Flood," it became clear that radical Islam would sweep through all Gulf states and other Arab and Islamic countries. Morocco also became a trusted ally and funder of political and economic sabotage, primarily through drugs, aiming to poison relations between Algeria and Morocco.
Genesis of a Geopolitical Project
The United Arab Emirates, an oil-rich emirate characterized by a small population and a large foreign worker contingent, established research centers under the Ministry of Defense. These centers were supervised by the US Department of Defense. Dozens of researchers were employed, focusing on fields like sociology, with particular attention to youth and Islamic religious groups. Researchers included Algerians and individuals from every Arab and Islamic country. Initially, the focus was on recruiting researchers fluent in English, specifically graduates from Britain and the United States. The projects aimed to gather extensive scientific "ammunition" concerning Islamic movements across the Arab and Islamic world. This initiative involved relying on and organizing these groups, assessing their capacity for change within the region.
The Unraveling of Control
Events unfolded across most Arab and Islamic countries, making control over these movements impossible and dangerous. This was notably evidenced by the developments involving "ISIS" in Syria, Iraq, and other nations. Following the events in Gaza and its interactions with Lebanon, Iran, and Yemen, the UAE and other Gulf states found it necessary to combine their financial and intelligence capabilities. This consolidation was reportedly carried out in collusion with what was described as the "usurping entity" (Israel), with prior US arrangement and high-level coordination.
The UAE's intelligence services, which had operated for half a century under the guise of "research centers" alongside Israeli and US intelligence, shifted their targeting. They initiated a "witch hunt" campaign after what was perceived as "genies" escaping the bottle. Support for radical Islam was described as strong, originating not only from abroad but also organizationally and mobilizationally from groups that emerged from under the "Muslim Brotherhood" umbrella. The Muslim Brotherhood ultimately became less impactful and severe on existing regimes than other jihadist and activist groups.
New Alliances and Regional Maneuvers
Israel and the UAE began mobilizing their intelligence and financial capabilities, operating under the guise of investment, aid, and diplomatic cover, while also engaging in destructive media activities through electronic means. This effort reportedly occurred in coordination with French and Israeli intelligence services. The normalization of Morocco with Israel is presented as an initial token of this complex situation. Algeria was targeted by these actors, as it reportedly did not conform to a "creative chaos" project and emerged stronger from its own internal crises. France, Israel, the UAE, and the "Makhzen" (Moroccan monarchy) are said to have subsequently focused on instigating new seditions aimed at undermining Algeria's stability.
