Aliko Dangote Announces $50 Billion African Manufacturing Expansion

Aliko Dangote announced plans to invest $50 billion in the African manufacturing sector by the end of 2030. This investment represents a long-term commitment to enhancing the industrial footprint of the continent. The expansion strategy seeks to scale production capabilities across the continent over the next four years. Aliko Dangote’s group also set a financial target to increase its annual revenue to at least $100 billion by 2030. These objectives represent a significant shift in the company’s growth trajectory as it pursues industrial development. All planned capital allocations and revenue goals remain scheduled for completion within the 2030 timeline. The group intends to utilize these funds to strengthen its market position and operational efficiency across multiple nations.

Strategic Petrochemical Investments Across Africa

Algeria is developing a petrochemical project in Skikda to produce Linear Alkyl Benzene (LAB) with an annual capacity of 100,000 tons. This industrial initiative involves collaboration between Sonatrach, Tecnimont, and the National Bank of Algeria. Separately, Aliko Dangote plans to build a Linear Alkyl Benzene plant in Egypt. This facility will have an annual production capacity of 400,000 tons. The development of these plants is intended to bolster the supply chain for essential chemical components required in manufacturing processes throughout the region.

Skikda Project Development and Financing

Sonatrach signed a contract with the Italian company Tecnimont in March 2024 to construct the petrochemical complex in Skikda. This agreement for the engineering, procurement, and construction of the facility carries a value of $1.05 billion.

The National Bank of Algeria will provide funding for 65 percent of the total contract value. This financial support is a critical component of the project's viability and long-term planning. Project timelines indicate that construction of the complex is estimated to take 44 months to complete. This duration accounts for the complex engineering requirements and the phased installation of specialized equipment necessary for Linear Alkyl Benzene production. Officials expect the Skikda petrochemical project to be inaugurated in November 2027. The project remains a central focus for the stakeholders involved in the industrial development of the Skikda region.

Future Industrial Growth and Infrastructure

Dangote's group plans to build a 530-kilometer offshore gas pipeline as part of the broader manufacturing expansion across Africa. This infrastructure project intends to support energy requirements for industrial operations throughout the continent. By securing a reliable energy source, the group aims to stabilize the power supply needed for its high-output manufacturing facilities.

Separate from these energy initiatives, the company targets a significant increase in its core construction materials division. Aliko Dangote’s group aims to reach a cement production capacity of 100 million metric tons annually by 2030. This goal aligns with the overarching strategy to scale manufacturing output and support the projected growth in annual revenue by the end of the decade. The expansion of cement production capacity is designed to meet the rising demand for infrastructure materials across the African market.
