Algeria’s General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) has declared the country and its security institutions are contending with a new generation of threats. The DGSN stated these campaigns aim to distort Algeria's image and falsify facts, spreading "poisons." The security body asserted it acts as "an impregnable fortress protecting the nation and a towering bulwark against those who seek to undermine Algeria’s security and stability, backed by operational readiness and a strong digital footprint."
New Generation of Threats
These threats reportedly include "poisons" spread by a western neighbor, aiming to corrupt the minds and bodies of Algeria’s youth, according to the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN). An editorial in Echorta (Police) Magazine (No. 165), titled “A Nation Whose Glory Was Guarded by the Martyrs and Is Built by Its Loyal Sons,” addressed the nation's efforts. The magazine stated that "all Algerian state institutions continue to work side by side with unwavering determination and unrelenting resolve, keeping firmly in sight the goal of achieving full development and advancing every sector through reforms that meet the challenges of the present and the aspirations of the future."
The editorial elaborated, asserting that "From development projects to reform initiatives, from investing in human capital to building infrastructure and public facilities, efforts converge and determination unites to move steadily toward broader horizons and a brighter future, in line with the sound guidance and far-sighted vision of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune." It further emphasized "the united efforts of Algerian hands and the ambitions of constructive national talent that are shaping tomorrow and envisioning the future, guided by knowledge and learning, and armed with awareness and a profound sense of responsibility for the trust placed upon them, in order to lay the foundations of a strong state underpinned by security and stability." Echorta Magazine added that the DGSN, "like all state institutions carrying out their duty in the service of the nation and its citizens, remains vigilant in safeguarding security and preserving public order."
DGSN Adapting to Challenges
The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) is adjusting its operations to confront a new array of threats by modernizing its capabilities. The DGSN is enhancing its operational readiness through updated training programs for its personnel. Concurrently, the directorate is expanding its integration of advanced technologies across its various departments to improve effectiveness. These efforts aim to ensure the security institution can address complex and evolving challenges facing Algeria. The modernization strategy encompasses both human capital development and technological advancements to maintain security and public order.
National Vigilance and Unity
Threats to Algeria's security also encompass hostile voices that exploit digital technologies to disseminate disinformation across borders, according to the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN). The DGSN stated these digital campaigns aim to distort Algeria's image and falsify facts. This reported tactic involves leveraging digital platforms to spread narratives intended to undermine national stability. The DGSN's assessment indicates a recognition of the evolving nature of challenges, extending beyond traditional security concerns to include information warfare. This emphasizes the security forces' focus on countering propaganda and misinformation campaigns originating from external sources, which are perceived as attempts to destabilize the nation through non-military means.
