Algerian Political Parties Prepare for Local Elections Amid Candidate Review

Harakat Bina Al-Watani (National Construction Movement) has submitted 600 electoral lists across 61 provinces as part of the preparations for upcoming local elections in Algeria. The National Independent Authority for Elections is currently reviewing these candidate files while processing ongoing appeals and substitution requests.

Said Nafisi, a leader in Harakat Bina Al-Watani, confirmed the scale of the party's participation. "The movement has managed to deposit 600 electoral lists distributed across 61 provinces, pending final figures after the issuance of appeals and the announcement of results by the Election Authority," Nafisi said. The regulatory review process remains active as the National Independent Authority for Elections evaluates the documentation submitted by the various political organizations.

Major Party Participation Efforts

The National Democratic Rally (RND) has confirmed its participation in the upcoming local elections across 1,200 municipalities. This figure represents the official count of electoral bids finalized by the party.

Concurrent reports suggest the National Liberation Front (FLN) intends to field candidates in approximately 1,300 municipalities. These figures remain unconfirmed by the National Independent Authority for Elections, as the candidate review process continues. The status of these municipal lists depends on the final verification of documentation and the outcome of pending appeals managed by the regulatory body. While the National Democratic Rally has established its presence in 1,200 administrative districts, the reach of the National Liberation Front is currently subject to variation in reports. The National Independent Authority for Elections maintains its oversight role, processing all files to ensure compliance with electoral standards before the final certification of candidate lists.

Regional Representation and Strategy

The Socialist Forces Front (FFS) has registered 165 electoral lists for the local elections. Rachid Chaibi, Media Officer for the Socialist Forces Front, explained the party's selection process for these districts. "The party limited its participation to electoral districts where it previously had elected officials, which exempted it from the procedures of collecting signature forms and allowed it to focus on areas where it has previous electoral representation," Chaibi said. This strategy centers the party's presence in regions where it maintains existing political infrastructure.

Harakat Mujtama' as-Silm (MSP) has also finalized its participation plans for the upcoming vote. The organization has deposited lists in approximately one-third of the country's municipalities. Additionally, Harakat Mujtama' as-Silm has submitted documentation to contest seats in 56 provincial people's assemblies. The National Independent Authority for Elections is currently processing these filings alongside those from other political organizations to ensure all submitted lists meet the necessary regulatory requirements.
