Algeria Marks National Moudjahid Day, Emphasizing Memory and Youth Connection

Minister of Youth Mustapha Hidaoui presided over activities celebrating National Moudjahid Day on Wednesday at the Centre international de la jeunesse in Sidi Fredj, Algiers. The significant event commemorated the double anniversary of two key historical moments: the Northern Constantine Offensive, which took place on August 20, 1955, and the Soummam Conference, held exactly one year later on August 20, 1956. These anniversaries are central to Algeria's national narrative and its struggle for independence. The celebration aimed specifically to consolidate national memory and ensure its transmission to young generations, fostering a deep connection with the nation's past. The youth sector, under the Ministry of Youth, plays a key role in this endeavor, working diligently to strengthen national values, preserve national memory, and connect successive generations to Algeria's glorious history, thereby ensuring the continuity of its heritage.

Commemorative Activities and Participants

The extensive initiative was meticulously organized through a collaborative partnership between the Ministry of Youth and the Superior Council of Youth. This joint effort also benefited from the valuable contributions of the Association “Machaâl Echahid”, noting a broad commitment to the commemorative activities. The event brought together a diverse group of attendees, including revered moudjahidine, whose sacrifices are at the heart of the day's observance. Also present were children from holiday centers located across various wilayas of Algeria, ensuring that the younger generation was directly involved in the remembrance. Members of the national community residing abroad participated, showing the widespread significance of the occasion.

Beyond the central gathering in Algiers, historical and educational interactive sessions were also held in summer camps situated in 14 coastal wilayas as an integral part of the broader commemorations. These sessions were specifically designed to allow children to meet moudjahidine, facilitating direct dialogue and providing them with a unique opportunity to hear firsthand testimonies about Algeria's arduous liberation struggle. This direct engagement serves to personalize history for the youth. During the main event, several moudjahidine were honored, recognizing their profound contributions and unwavering dedication to the nation's freedom.

Core Messages and Slogan

The event adopted a powerful and evocative slogan: “Sur les traces de leur combat nous avançons” (Following in the footsteps of their struggle, we advance). This slogan encapsulates the spirit of continuity and progress that the celebrations sought to instill. The Minister of Youth, Mustapha Hidaoui, delivered a compelling address, urging young people to emulate the path of the moudjahidine and chouhada. He emphasized that this commitment is not merely an act of remembrance but is vital for contributing actively to the nation's ongoing development and safeguarding its hard-won achievements. The minister's call noted the profound importance of intergenerational continuity in upholding national values and ensuring the country's sustained progress and prosperity.

Voices of Memory and Continuity

The interactive sessions held throughout the commemorations proved to be particularly impactful, allowing children to engage directly with moudjahidine. These direct encounters fostered meaningful dialogue and enabled the younger generation to hear firsthand testimonies about Algeria's liberation struggle, bridging the gap between past and present. Amar Boumezrag, who serves as the Secretary General of the National Organization of Moudjahidine (ONM), showed the immense importance of these exchanges, recognizing their role in preserving historical memory. Mohamed Abbad, the distinguished President of the Association Machâal Echahid, further noted the critical role of such initiatives in connecting younger generations with the nation's rich historical memory. These carefully designed interactions are fundamental to ensuring the continuous transmission of national values and the enduring legacy of those who bravely fought for Algeria's independence, inspiring future generations to uphold these principles.
