The Ministry of Internal Trade and Market Regulation launched a unified digital platform on 21 October to monitor price increases and analyze data to prevent market crises in Algeria. Officials will publish wholesale and retail prices on the ministry’s official websites to improve transparency for the public. Noureddine Haridi, Central Director at the Ministry of Internal Trade and Market Regulation, stated: "The ministry is working to simplify the legal procedures related to invoicing, and to develop an electronic system to monitor price movements, with the publication of periodic bulletins via websites, to ensure the consumer is informed of the real prices." This initiative aims to maintain price stability through direct digital oversight of market activities across the country.

New Digital Monitoring Tools

Amel Abdellatif, Minister of Internal Trade and Market Regulation, convened a meeting with regional directors on 18 October 2026 to implement Council of Ministers instructions regarding daily price monitoring. Noureddine Haridi, Central Director at the Ministry of Internal Trade and Market Regulation, stated: "The new system aims to determine profit margins in a scientific and transparent manner, and to define the responsibilities of all parties concerned from producers to consumers in coordination with the concerned sectors, including the Ministry of Agriculture and technical institutes, to set clear standards for price structuring and implement a stock monitoring system to ensure there are no gaps or exploitation by some intermediaries or illegal traders."

Haridi added: "These measures are an important step to enhance the stability of the national market and control prices to protect consumers, in response to the instructions of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, during the periodic meetings of the Council of Ministers, and they also come within a comprehensive strategy that includes proactive mechanisms for monitoring stocks and following up on commercial spaces, with the aim of avoiding random and unjustified price increases, and ensuring the market is supplied with sufficient and regular quantities."

Enforcement and Market Violations

Control services recorded 17 billion dinars in illegal commercial practices, a figure encompassing incidents of fraud and tax evasion. These financial irregularities remain a primary focus for the Ministry of Internal Trade and Market Regulation as it expands its digital oversight capabilities.

Agents conducted over two million interventions during the first eight months of 2026 to identify these market irregularities. The scale of these inspections reflects the current government effort to enforce regulatory standards across all commercial sectors.

These field interventions resulted in the detection of over 150,000 violations. Following these findings, authorities filed judicial reports against more than 144,000 traders identified during the enforcement process.

The ministry is also preparing a system to cap prices for essential goods. This planned regulatory mechanism will include specific categories such as legumes, meat, and vegetables. By setting these price limits, the ministry intends to prevent price gouging and ensure that basic food items remain accessible to the public.
