The National Office for Grains targets marketing between 2.5 and 3 million quintals of seeds for the 2026-2027 agricultural season in Algeria. Boumediene Omrani, Central Director at the National Office for Grains, said: "The available quantities of durum wheat, soft wheat, and barley seeds meet the estimated needs for the season, with the possibility of increasing the marketing volume to 3 million quintals according to the demand recorded by cooperatives." These supplies are intended to support national production goals throughout the upcoming period. Officials expect the final distribution volume to align with requirements identified by regional cooperatives. This initiative forms the core of the agency’s strategy for the current cycle as they manage domestic inventory levels for core grain varieties.
Streamlining Access for Farmers
The National Office for Grains is establishing 78 unified windows to streamline agricultural operations across Algeria. These centers provide farmers with direct access to necessary seeds, fertilizers, and financing options. By consolidating these services into single locations, the office aims to simplify the procurement process for grain producers preparing for the 2026-2027 season. The initiative connects technical requirements with financial support to ensure producers obtain resources in a timely manner. Farmers can visit these unified windows to coordinate their inputs and credit needs as the planting cycle progresses. This infrastructure serves as a central hub for individual agriculturalists working to meet the national production targets set for the current grain cycle.
Expanding National Storage Capacity
The storage expansion plan includes 30 concrete silos with a capacity of 1 million quintals each. These installations are intended to bolster the national reserves managed by the National Office for Grains.
Regarding mobile infrastructure, the office has already received 16 iron silos. These units are currently undergoing technical testing to ensure they meet operational standards before deployment. There are 13 additional silos currently under construction to further augment the existing network.
Local infrastructure projects continue alongside these large-scale developments. Authorities have completed 350 local storage warehouses to support the harvest and seed distribution process. These facilities are positioned to assist with logistical requirements during peak agricultural periods.
The National Office for Grains also maintains a substantial inventory of technical resources. The office's agricultural equipment accounts for approximately 10% of the national agricultural machinery fleet. This machinery is utilized to facilitate various stages of the production cycle across the country.
