Al-Ahli Jeddah secured a 1-0 victory against Al-Diriya in their opening Roshn League match, yet fan discussions continue to center on the recent departure of Riyad Mahrez. The win did not fully quell concerns among supporters regarding the team's future attacking strength. Fans are reportedly questioning the ability of Portuguese player Francisco Trincão, Mahrez's successor, to adequately fill the void left by the former star. This sentiment suggests that despite an early league win, the team's roster changes remain a significant point of debate for the club's followers. The Al-Ahli Jeddah team commenced their Roshn League campaign with a 1-0 victory over Al-Diriya, a result that, while positive, has not entirely shifted the focus from the team's recent high-profile player movements.
Mahrez's Impact and Departure
Riyad Mahrez, a prominent figure for Al-Ahli, made significant contributions during his tenure with the club before his recent departure. Across 122 matches, Mahrez demonstrated his offensive prowess, scoring 37 goals for the team. His playmaking abilities were equally notable, as he provided 50 assists during his time at Al-Ahli. These statistics show his consistent performance and key role in the team's attacking strategies. His departure has left a considerable gap, prompting fans to reflect on his invaluable contributions.
Mahrez's impact extended beyond individual statistics, playing a key role in the club's trophy successes. He helped Al-Ahli secure two victories in the AFC Champions Elite League, a significant achievement for the team. Additionally, Mahrez was part of the squad that won the Saudi Super Cup, further cementing his legacy as a key player in Al-Ahli's recent history. His consistent performance in key matches and his ability to deliver under pressure made him a fan favorite and a cornerstone of the team's success. His departure has prompted discussions among supporters regarding the potential void in the team's attacking capabilities and the challenge of finding a suitable replacement.
Trincão's Arrival and Expectations
Francisco Trincão arrived at Al-Ahli Jeddah, having been signed from Sporting Lisbon. The transfer of the Portuguese forward involved a fee of approximately 40 million Euros. Trincão's contract with Al-Ahli Jeddah extends until 2030, signaling a long-term commitment from the club. His acquisition comes as fans assess the team's offensive capabilities following the departure of Riyad Mahrez. The substantial transfer fee and extended contract suggest Al-Ahli Jeddah views Trincão as a key figure for their future plans and a key component in maintaining their competitive edge. The club's investment in Trincão notes their belief in his potential to become a central figure in their squad and to deliver the attacking output previously provided by Mahrez.
Fan Sentiment and Doubts
Fans of Al-Ahli are reportedly expressing regret over the recent departure of Riyad Mahrez. The former Al-Ahli star is currently without a club following his exit from the Jeddah-based team. Despite his free agency, Mahrez remains a subject of interest for several clubs across different leagues. Reports indicate that Italian clubs Roma and Como are pursuing the player. Additionally, Saudi club Neom and UAE club Al-Jazira have also shown interest in acquiring Mahrez. The ongoing speculation about his next destination comes as Al-Ahli supporters continue to assess the team's roster changes. The sentiment among fans reflects a concern about the team's ability to maintain its attacking prowess without Mahrez, especially as questions arise regarding Trincão's capacity to step into such a significant role.
